Graduation

Thirteen years ago you were such a little tot,
I drove you down to Southside School
And turned into the parking lot.
We didn't want to go in,
I wanted to turn and run
But I took your little hand in mine and said,
It will be ok, you'll have lots of fun.

I think I cried all day
And wondered how you were.
Did you eat your lunch,
Did you make friends when you went out to play?
But when I went to pick you up
And saw that great big smile,
I knew right then that for you
School would be worthwhile.

You have done so very well
I want to shout out loud!
From straight A's, lots of friends, good decisions,
You make a parent proud.
So now on graduation night, I must make one more trip.
I'll drive into the LHS parking lot
And let you out once more
You'll go inside alone this time
No longer my little tot.

But when you go out through the line
With that diploma in your hand,
Look for my face, I'll be wearing a smile,
For yes indeed, my little tot, did make school worthwhile.
